Known as one of the artistic capitals of the Caribbean, Haiti isn’t the first place people think of coming when looking for a beach holiday nowadays. It’s known for it’s lively festivals and artistic villages, but there are also some great villages worth visiting here too. You can also take a quick look at the best beaches in Cuba.

If you’re thinking about coming to Haiti, which of these beaches should you try and get to visit? Here’s just a few of the top beaches in Haiti that you’ll want to try and stop at.

Best Beaches in Haiti

There are many Beaches in Haiti. Beaches have natural attractions near them so people come to Beaches in Haiti.

The Beaches in Haiti may be divided into two groups: Beaches of the West and Beaches of the East. Beaches of the west are located between Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitian, while Beaches of the east are situated between Cape Haitien and Cape Boni. The most famous Beaches in Haiti are Anse Mitan, Pinson, Malendure, Milot (first one), Fond Doux etc…

Labadee

One of the most well known beach resorts in the world, Labadee is located in the North of Haiti, around a 45 minute drive from the nearest big city, Cap-Haitien. Many cruises end up coming to Labadee (or Labadie), and there’s good reason for it. It’s actually leased by Royal Caribbean cruise line, so it’s pretty exclusive.

The resort itself is completely fenced off, and it’s a great location if you’re just looking to relax. The sea here is nice and calm, and it makes for the perfect place to spend the day lounging around and taking a light swim in the afternoon.

If you’re looking for something a little more adrenaline-enthusing, you can look to try the Dragon’s Breath over water zipline, which is the longest zipline running over water in the entire world. But aside from this, the area is mainly about relaxing, which is what the majority come here to do.

Cormier Plage

If you head East along the coast from Labadee, you’ll eventually come to Cormier. Here, you’ll find the hotel described as the only one in the North of Haiti, and it has exclusive access to the beachfront there.

As you’d expect from a beach in this location, one of the most impressive things that it has to offer is the amazing views. The water here is clear too, and it’s nice and warm as well. It’s also extremely well maintained and kept clean all year round.

The good news is that if you wanted to get here from Cap-Hatien, then the road between the two was paved relatively recently. This means that you’re not going to have a super bumpy ride, which you likely will in most other areas of Haiti.

Overall, it’s worth coming to Cormier Plage if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the North of Haiti.

Wahoo Bay Beach

For those looking for somewhere closer to the capital Port-au-Prince, you’ll likely want to consider going to somewhere like Wahoo Bay Beach. This place is only around an hour and fifteen minutes drive if you head North-east from the city. There are a few other beach resorts worth checking out on this Western coast, too.

But Wahoo Bay Beach is a great place to come if you’re looking to take a break. There’s not a great deal of activities for you to do here, but the beach itself is gorgeous and the water is warm and clear.

This position of Haiti is one of the best places to be for when the sunsets, and it produces some great views. Of course, it’s also a great place to watch the Sun rise too – if you can be bothered to get up that early!

The resort and beach itself is quite small, but you do get a good view of the reef here, which makes it one of the better places in Haiti to go snorkelling. This is made even better by the fact that there’s not many people and crowds around, so you’ll have hours to yourself to snorkel and discover as much as you want.

Port-Salut

Considered on of the best beaches in Haiti, Port-Salut is a popular destination not only for tourists, but also for local Haitians too. Located at the very South-west of the country, it’s a great place to come to with many smaller beaches along this coast.

One good example is Pointe Sable beach, which has beautiful white sand and turquoise seas. The sand here is nice and softs, and there’s some good restaurant shacks here too if you need to get something to eat (with some of the best seafood this area has to offer here too).

Although it’s still not very busy down here, it seems like this area is getting a little more well known as a more popular destination. There are more hotels and bars being put up along the Port-Salut region, which means that there’s likely going to be some pretty great resorts to visit here pretty soon.

It’s still around 5 hours drive to get here from the capital, which is one of the main reasons it’s not overly busy as of yet. But if you want some of the top secluded beaches Haiti has to offer, then some can be found un the Port-Salut commune.

Jacmel beach

The south coast of Haiti is home to some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. One of the best places you can see this is in Jacmel, which is around a 3 hour drive from Port au Prince.

This isn’t the best beach to come to if you’re looking for a casual swim. The currents can get pretty strong here, and it might be a little to rough for those who just want to get their feet wet. It’s a better beach for surfing than it is for relaxing.

But as I mentioned, along this beach you’ll be able to see some pretty fantastic sunrises and sunsets. This is definitely an interesting area, and it’s nice to walk along the harbour in Jacmel, or along the boardwalk too.

So overall, although the actual beach itself here is not that great, it’s views and quiet atmosphere will be what many people are looking for.

Conclusion

All in all, the country itself has many rocky shores along it’s edges, as well as some great beaches too. Although it’s known more recently for being one of the poorest countries in the Western world after being subject to many natural disasters, this isn’t all Haiti should be known for.
