Best Beaches in St Lucia

Considered to have some of the best views in the Caribbean, St Lucia is a popular destination for many Americans and Europeans. This island is not only known for it’s rainforests, but also for it’s wonderful beaches lining its coasts.

With so many beaches here, it can be difficult to pick out just a few of them to visit (much like how difficult it is to pick between the beaches in St Kitts and Nevis). So, here’s a rundown of some of the best St Lucian beaches out there for you to see.

Best Beaches in St Lucia

There are some Beaches in St Lucia that you simply have to visit again and again, as you never get tired of the stunning views. In fact, here are just a few Beaches in St Lucia that belong on your bucket list.

Anse des Pitons (Pitons bay)

Anse-des-Pitons Anse des Pitons, also referred to as Pitons bay, is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in St Lucia. It’s located on the South-west side of St Lucia, where some of the other top beaches are positioned too.

The beach here is pretty well known, so even though it’s not one of the biggest beaches in the area, it can get pretty busy during certain times of the year.

The beach itself isn’t far from the town Soufriere, which is the 2nd biggest on St Lucia. Soufriere is a good representation of what St Lucia is really like. Of course, the area is most well known for the Pitons – two large volcanic plugs, which are atttractive desintations for hikers.

But, back to Pitons Bay, which is covered with soft white sand and calm seas due to it’s bay location. It’s also a pretty good spot for snorkelling too, so if you want to try our snorkelling and see how you get one, then coming to Pitons bay is a good idea.

Anse Chastanet

Another awesome beach not far from Soufriere is Anse Chastanet, which has a nice mellow vibe even when it does get busy. Like many beaches on this island, it’s the perfect place to go snorkelling, as it has a pretty amazing coral reef for you to explore.

This beach is well known for it’s standard beige sand mixed with black, volcanic sand, which gives it a different look in comparison to the typical beach. From here, you’ll be able to get some really clear views of the volcanic Pitons, which are definitely pretty impressive. Something to watch out for its the “coconut man”, who will pass by in his kayak and sell some refreshing coconut water.

If you’re going to visit Soufriere, then you could opt to get a taxi here – or you can make the lovely hours walk to the beach to burn off your evening meal (it’s up a very steep hill though so beware!). Although this beach is within a resort, you don’t have to be staying there to visit – though part of the beach is specifically for resort guests.

Reduit Beach

reduit-beach For those looking for a beach to get involved with some activities, then a visit to Reduit Beach is probably in order. It’s one of the more touristy locations on the island, and you’ll be able to find various different watersports here to have a go.

In terms of the beach itself, it’s filled with soft beige sand and beautiful warm water if you want to take a swim. There are lots of different activities here for you to try, including jet-skiing, as well as an inflatable assault course that you can try out too. It’s a good place to grab some beers and food and spend the day relaxing.

One thing to bear in mind is that this beach, like many on St Lucia, is one of the busier ones. So if you’d like something more secluded, either head to another beach, or walk a little further through the beach to find a quieter area. Keep walking for 10+ mins to find a better spot!

Anse Cochon

Now, if you’re looking to visit somewhere a little quieter, then you may have to travel for this. One of the most popular destinations on tours of St Lucia is Anse Cochon, found on the West coast around 40 minutes South of Castries. This is often said to be one of the best beaches on the island.

Whilst it can still get a little busy here, it’s not going to be as busy as Reduit Beach. The beach itself is pretty small, but it’s clean with clear water. This makes it another excellent destination if you want to have a go at snorkelling – the clear water makes it very easy for you to spot some of the beautiful fish here.

As well as snorkelling, you can also rent out kayaks and paddle boards here too, which can be a good idea for beginners because the water here is very calm. There’s also a pretty great restaurant here too if you want to grab something to eat.

Vigie Beach

vigie-beach Whilst most of the beaches are further South on the island, Vigie is actually just North of Castries, and right next to George Charles Airport. The location of the airport puts some people off, but it’s an amazing beach (and some people even come here for plane spotting!).

This is a pretty convenient location to come to if you’ve got a rental car, as you can park just off the beach. It’s perfect if you’re just arriving into St Lucia with your rental car, as you can pull up to this beach within just minutes of arriving! Although the airport can be a little noisy at times, it’s generally much quieter than ost other beaches along this coast of the island.

As you can see from the photograph, this is one of the top locations on the island if you want to catch a beautiful sunset. Afterwards, on some occasions there will be a fun St Lucian party here where you can join in and enjoy yourself.

Conclusion

Overall, St Lucia will always be one of the top locations in the Caribbean when it comes to holidays and beaches. The west-side of the island is full of amazing blue water beaches just waiting for you to explore them, whether you’re staying near a town or you’re planning to go on a tour, St Lucia is a great destination.
